Omoyele Sowore protesting with other retired police officers

Retired police officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme on Monday moved from the National Assembly to the Police Force Headquarters.

Since their arrival, the retired cops have blocked the main gate of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja as part of a protest to demand their exit from the pension arrangement.

The demonstrators, mostly elderly ex-officers, gathered in large numbers and obstructed entry and exit into the premises, insisting they would not leave until their grievances were addressed.

Amid the tension, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Adewale Ajao, and the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, appealed to the protesters to vacate the entrance.

The protesters, however, rejected all pleas to vacate the premises.
