The immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Bauchi State, Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, alongside the former Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Ladan Salihu, has resigned from the party.
In a resignation letter dated July 21, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of Majidadi Ward, Kashim, who initially emerged as the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, did not disclose the reasons for his departure.
It will be recalled that Kashim stepped down from his candidacy in support of Governor Bala Mohammed, who had contested the PDP presidential ticket. During the campaign, Kashim said he worked tirelessly to deliver votes across Bauchi LGA, even as he retained his duties as SSG.
He eventually resigned from the government in January 2025, stating that the governor had directed him to do so.
It was gathered that Kashim may still be eyeing the governorship seat in 2027 and could pursue his ambition on another platform, though he is yet to formally declare his new party.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ladan Salihu, who currently serves as the spokesman of the League of Northern Democrats, resigned from the PDP on July 19, citing loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and direction. In a letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Hardo Ward, Salihu, a former Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), said his decision was based on his belief and conviction that the party has jettisoned the core principles, vision, and mission of its founding fathers.
Salihu, who also served as Commissioner for Information under Governor Bala, decried what he described as the stranglehold of anti-democratic forces within the PDP.
The resignation of both high-ranking figures has deepened uncertainty within the ruling party in Bauchi and could trigger a wave of further defections ahead of the 2027 general elections. Their exit comes amid a string of similar departures that have rocked the PDP since opposition leaders adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the new platform to pursue their 2027 ambitions.
