The Oyo State Fire Service has blamed the devastating fire that destroyed property worth millions of naira at an industrial facility in Ibadan, Oyo State on “running machine explosion.”

Investigations by our correspondent on Monday revealed that the incident occurred at the Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited, in the Olopomeji area of Ibadan, on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses informed PUNCH Metro that the recycling section of the facility, which housed an accumulation of disused tires, was affected, leading to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.

The Chairman of the State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, who confirmed the incident in a statement, stated that the incident was reported to the agency at 7:07 am on Sunday.

He stated, “The fire incident was a result of the explosion of a running machine, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the section ablaze.

“The fire affected the recycling section and disused tires, whilst the fire service was able to save other sections of the company from the devastating fire.”

In April, a similar fire outbreak destroyed at least 12 shops in Ibadan.

It was reported that the blaze started late in the night at Block A, No. 64, Mayegun Cement Store Market, Araromi, Agodi-Gate, and raged for over three hours before it was finally brought under control.
