Super Falcons Victory

Players of the Super Falcons have hailed the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with the now-famous “Na our mama be this o” chant during their reception at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

The team, who clinched a historic 10th title at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, burst into the chant twice, on their arrival and before the First Lady gave her address in a show of affection and appreciation for her support.

Senator Tinubu, who beamed with smiles, expressed her joy and solidarity with the team, commending their discipline and resilience in representing the country with pride.

The chant, which translates to “This is our mother,” had previously stirred controversy earlier this year during an event at the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences. At the time, students were seen in a viral video rejecting the First Lady’s designation as “everyone’s mother,” responding instead with “Na your mama be this,” meaning “That is your own mother.”

That incident took place during the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Outreach at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba, where professional kits were distributed to 10,000 midwives across the South-South.

But in contrast, the Super Falcons’ use of the phrase appeared intentional and celebratory, reinforcing a narrative of unity and acceptance.

President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady hosted the victorious squad days after their thrilling 3-2 win over Morocco, which secured Nigeria’s dominance on the continent with WAFCON titles in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2024, and now 2025.
