Chibok Girls

Abuja, Nigeria – In response to the Federal Government’s declaration that the rescue of the remaining 87 Chibok girls is now a “national priority,” 2027 presidential hopeful and frontline Pan-African advocate, Abayomi Mighty, has issued a strongly-worded statement condemning the timing and sincerity of the announcement.

“Let’s get this straight,” he began. “The government says rescuing our 87 missing daughters is now a national priority — after 11 years of silence, failures, and missed opportunities? That is not a priority. That is a belated apology wrapped in political theatre.”

Since the 2014 mass abduction of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok, Borno State, efforts have led to the rescue or return of many. However, 87 girls still remain unaccounted for — a statistic that continues to haunt the nation.

Abayomi Mighty did not mince words in his response:

“These girls ought to have been recovered years ago. Eleven years of unanswered prayers, broken families, and shattered futures cannot be wiped away by a sudden declaration. Where was this urgency all these years?”

He further described the government’s recent statement as “a reaction to public pressure, not a reflection of genuine governance.”

“True leadership doesn’t wait for anniversaries or trending hashtags. It acts — swiftly, responsibly, and consistently. If it takes eleven years to prioritize the rescue of children, then something is fundamentally broken at the core of our national security and moral compass.”

The 2027 presidential aspirant, who has continued to gain traction among Nigerian youth and rights activists, also called for a nationwide school safety reform:

“Never again should the Nigerian school be a war zone. Under my leadership, securing every child — from Zamfara to Bayelsa — will be non-negotiable. We will move from mere recovery to prevention, from regret to responsibility.”

He closed his statement with a stirring message to Nigerian voters:

“These 87 girls are not just statistics. They are a mirror of our failure — and a test of our conscience. The 2027 elections must not be about personalities. It must be about priorities. If a government cannot protect its children, it is unworthy of their future.”
