Abayomi-Mighty, statesman, Veteran Youth Leader, and 2027 presidential hopeful, has reacted to the recently released WASSCE results with deep concern and a renewed call for a total overhaul of Nigeria’s education sector.
While commending the resilience of Nigerian students who sat for the examination despite widespread socio-economic and infrastructural challenges, Abayomi-Mighty emphasized that the declining performance in key subjects is not a failure of the students but a reflection of a failed system.
“You cannot underfund education, overburden teachers, and ignore curriculum relevance — then expect excellence. These children are seeds, but Nigeria has failed to provide fertile ground.”
He decried the systemic rot in public schools across the country, ranging from dilapidated buildings to a lack of basic instructional materials and chronic teacher shortages. He also pointed out the widening gap between private and public education, warning that such inequality only deepens class divides and limits upward mobility.
“We cannot celebrate shiny infrastructure projects worth billions, while our classrooms have no roofs, and children are learning without chairs. Our budget priorities are upside down. A bullet-proof government and a broken blackboard cannot build the Nigeria of tomorrow.”
He concluded by stating:
“The greatness of a nation is not in its roads or refineries, but in the minds it raises. Nigeria must rise above temporary political gains and build generational intellectual wealth. We must move from palliatives to purpose.”
