The Joint Action Committee of the Academic and Non-Academic Union of Bauchi State-owned tertiary institutions has lamented a shortfall discovered in its members’ salaries.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, the chairman of the union, Abubakar Ahmed, acknowledged the state government’s approval and commencement of the implementation of 90% of the new salary structures of COMPCASS and CONTEDISS, effective June 2025.
While noting that the development is a milestone achievement for staff across the tertiary institutions in the state, he drew the attention of the government to salary shortfalls for some staff.
“It has come to our notice that some staff received their June 2025 salaries with unexplained shortfalls ranging from N2,000 to as high as N40,000. We are confident that this was not intentional and may be a result of computation or transmission errors.
“We respectfully request the urgent attention of the relevant authorities to investigate and address these anomalies so that affected staff are fully paid what is due to them”, he said.
He equally restated JAC’s position on the Bauchi State Contributory Pension Scheme, saying that “We have studied the scheme thoroughly and, while we support any policy that ensures retirement security, we are concerned about certain provisions that are anti-worker, especially in the area of pension administration after retirement.
“JAC has officially communicated its reservations to the Head of Service, and we once again called on the Government to re-examine the scheme in the best interest of workers”, he concluded.
